Page content posting without HTML editors?
July 28th 2010
What is the easiest website template or format to maintain? I am looking to start a website where content needs to be added and changed daily as well as posting video audi updates, like a newsletter. I need a quick and easy to maintain site, but that still looks unique and not cookie cutter.
I have little knowledge of HTML and dreamweaver etc. What type of webpage formats exist that would convert a simple cut and paste from Word and allow the webmaster to add/edit content? Is there a certain program built into the webpage? What should I instruct the web designer in building this type of site?

easiest way to do it would be to hire a web design full time and just have him/her do it.

Tell the web developer what you want, not how to do his job. What “formats” to use is his decision, not yours. (It’s like telling the body shop what nozzle to use on their spray gun – just tell them what color you want the car to be.)

I won’t be so critical of your question. I think that you would find it easy if server side includes were used. With SSI, the daily updates need only be text files, created and named the same each day, and uploaded to the folder over writing the old. New videos would also be brought to display again through includes. With includes as text files, it requires no knowledge on the part of the updater to know html. Via the html and css developed by the pro, it would display as if it were in the original html document — in fact if you looked at the source code, it will appear just as that.
You have probably seen websites that used SSI. The extension on the html document is “shtml” rather than just “html”. Truly a neat way of putting together and maintaining a web site. Your webmaster will know of SSI — if not, find another webmaster.
