Competitor has asked that I change my website keywords?
A competitor has emailed me telling me I have ‘intellectually’ stolen her keywords.
We are both in the same business in the same city and she claims that I must delete the keywords that are the same as hers…these keywords are important to freelance artist in this city and I have not used her name, just the words relating the business type in the city…
They are obvious keywords for anyone in this particular field to be found on google! I think she is just annoyed that I now rank higher than her on the first page of results. This is probably because I get a LOT of traffic to my website from newsletters I send out etc…and because my page content is very good.
She is being quite nasty! She claims ‘copyright’ and ‘intellectual property theft’! I asked her which of these keywords she had trademarked (I was being cheeky) and she said “that’s not the point…blah blah blah”.
She also claims I stole her title! Her title is:
her name : her business type
My title is:
my name : my business type | my business type in a different format | and a different format again
She is upset that I have the use of the colons :
I have since deleted them and just put another |
She must go around viewing the source from all her competitors websites. Clearly she’s not getting much business, perhaps something to do with attitude!
Have I actually done anything wrong if I am using the same keywords as her (and most other people in this field!). What if they are in the same ‘order’!?

Wow, no you didn’t do anything wrong. You cannot claim keywords, she is a moron and just needs to improve her own site.

Fortunately for both of you, there is no such thing as a copyright on SEO metatags. And your proper usage of metatags and quality content in order to draw the most traffic supports to your website is worthwhile and no amount of complaining by your competitor can change that. I’d ignore her criticisms and it is highly unlikely that she’ll take any legal action against you for the keywords.
Good luck!

Sounds like she’s trying to pull something out of her ****!
These are the tactics of a desperate woman who is clearly ignorant of the law she tries to incorrectly apply. I wouldn’t worry about it; however, if you have an attorney you can go to for a quick answer, I’d probably do that to put myself fully at ease.
Good luck.

Well I don’t think she can do much about it.. She must be annoyed that the keywords are same but no copyright law for meta tags.. If you copied her content then yes she can claim it.. The thing is keywords are very limited.. and competitive.. so it cud be frustrating when someone else is getting a good rank for the same keywords.. but… No one can help it.. you keep optimizing your site and ignore her.. You are doing NO wrong

I don’t think you can actually trademark keywords, however, for her to be able to make you change yor keywords she need to show you proof that the actual keywords are in fact her property. If she cannot produce said proof then you can ignore her completely. Just block her mail address.
If she’s contacting you by phone you can tell her to go take a long walk on a short bridge and let her know that if she keeps calling you’re going to treat those calls like prank calls and then you can do some nasty things to her also like sounding a canned air horn to the headset every time she calls and blow her headset to the river! hahaha
Or, to save you all that trouble, check with your phone company to see if you can have her phone number blocked from yours so that she can’t call you again.
I hope this was useful.

Hi. I’m Andrew and I own a website which I use for friends and PC Advice.
First of all, your competitor is really annoyed about your better Page Rank. So if you think you’ll lose your page rank, I’m happy to say that you’re so wrong!
Google Page Rank works by back links (links referring to your website). One way to get back links is to join forums, and most of them allow you to have a signature where you could insert your site URL. Also, you could compose articles on websites such as Yahoo! Answers and finish them with your name and website URL:

What would make her more upset if you get even more traffic then her.
Reach for the stars. She just has something up her ****.
Generating traffic can be a tricky task. Here are a few blueprint methods I have used to generate free traffic to my website. Indeed it may take a while before I had decent results, but it was worth the effort in the long term.Top 23 sites to get your (url) website listed on search engines free.
