I am guessing they use photoshop but what formats do they save it as for an email ad or newsletter?

no. you don’t require photo shop knowledge to make your own newsletter, in fact you can insert the images in your mailbox itself, see just above the in box , where we type the message.
You can prepare your newsletter in ms-word with images and background and later copy paste it in your email ad. simple!

If you’re planning on creating a newsletter to publish to a list of people who have opted in to receive your content, use one of these services:
Aweber -
or ConstantContact -
These services are only a few bucks a month, manage your database of subscribers, provide templates for you to use in your emails so you don’t have to create the design on your own, and they will keep you out of legal trouble by taking care of 99% of the CANSPAM regulations.
Best of luck!
